GCG’s Q2 2021 Middle Market Private Equity Update provides an overview of the latest trends in the private equity market.
Key findings include the following:
- The first half of 2021 set a torrid pace for the value of PE deals. On an annualized basis, 2021 is set to exceed the prior annual high-level mark for PE in terms of deal value, which was set in 2018. On an annualized basis, the PE deal value will be up approx. 10.5 percent over 2020.
- The number of PE deals during the first half of 2021 was higher than 2020, however, the growth vs 2020 was not as significant as deal value. The increase on an annualized basis is approximately 6 percent.
- PE fundraising has been strengthening during 2021. Funds raised are up 18 percent on an annualized basis vs 2020. The overall level of fundraising is still well below the pre-covid years. We expect significant increases in fundraising over the next several quarters.
