GCG’s Q2 2026 Automotive and AutoTech Newsletter provides an overview of the latest trends in the sector, including recent performance, valuation multiples, and the state of the middle-market M&A environment.

Key findings include the following:

  • The North American automotive industry continued a measured recovery in Q2 2026, as OEMs balanced stable production against affordability pressures, tariff uncertainty, and uneven demand, while profitability, supply chain resilience, AI-enabled technologies, and autonomy commercialization shaped strategic priorities.
  • Automotive M&A activity remained elevated in Q2 2026, with 198 transactions and average deal value increasing to $391 million. Strategic buyers represented approximately 90% of deal volume, reinforcing M&A as a critical lever for supplier consolidation, portfolio reshaping, and competitive scale.
  • Automotive public equities delivered mixed performance in Q2 2026, with Traditional Suppliers leading LTM returns at 51.7% and Growth/EV Suppliers rising 20.5%, while Traditional OEMs lagged and automotive stocks continued to trail broader markets over the three-year period.
