GCG’s Q3 2022 E-Commerce Industry Update provides an overview of the latest trends in the sector, including recent performance, valuation multiples, and the state of the middle-market M&A environment.

Key findings include the following:

  • In Q3 2022, there were 61 announced E-Commerce transactions, down from 65 in Q2 and down from 98 in the prior year’s Q3. Despite the lower volume of deals, average deal value increased to $121 million, up from $73 million in Q2.
  • Global online retail sales growth will continue to rise and take up a more significant portion of the retail market share. E-commerce retail sales are projected to reach $8148 billion by 2026, with E-Commerce websites taking up 25.1% of total retail sales.
  • United States Direct-to-Consumer (“D2C”) E-Commerce sales are expected to reach $213 billion in 2024, a continuation of the 32.5% growth driven by the pandemic from 2019 to 2020.
