GCG’s Q4 2022 E-Commerce Industry Update provides an overview of the latest trends in the sector, including recent performance, valuation multiples, and the state of the middle-market M&A environment.
Key findings include the following:
- In Q4 2022, there were 55 announced E-Commerce transactions, down from 61 in Q3 and down from 114 in the prior year’s Q4. Despite the lower volume of deals, average deal value increased to $365 million, up from $108 million in Q3.
- The global E-commerce market size was valued at ~$14,300 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach ~$58,740 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 26.5%.
- “DNVB” is any Digitally Native Vertical Brand that sells its own products on its website. They sell directly to consumers through their D2C channels. D2C E-commerce sales of established brands are growing faster than those of DNVBs. In 2023, they are expected to outperform DNVB growth (17.5% versus 16.7%).
